PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)

Becoming a PADI OWSI is a two step process:

Step 1: The Instructor Development Course (PADI IDC)

(Cost does not include: current OW, AOW, Rescue & DM books, which you will need for reference during the IDC).

PADI IDC Pre-requisites:
A PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for six months may enrol in the PADI Instructor Development Course.
You also need:
– At least 60 logged dives to start, and 100 dives to attend an IE.
– Current CPR & First Aid training within the past 24 months
– A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
The PADI IDC includes:

  • Knowledge development through self-study, quizzes, lectures and presentations.
  • Confined water skill review and assessment, workshops and presentations.
  • Open water workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations.

Step 2: Instructor Examinations (PADI IE)

*(IE Application Fee payable direct to PADI, subject to change according to PADI prices)

The PADI IE includes written exams, presentation assessments, confined water and open water assessments.

As an Open Water Instructor, you can go on to become a Specialty Instructor, that is, you can qualify to teach one or more Specialty courses. If you qualify to teach five different PADI specialties and have issued at least 25 certifications, you can qualify to become a Master Scuba Diver trainer.

After your IE, through your Course Director we can offer further training to help you become a Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT), which will reduce the overall MSDT cost and application fees. Please ask us for details when you enrol in the IDC.
